When people first reach out for counselling, they sometimes worry that they will have to explain or justify who they are.
That is never the case in my room.
Over the years, I’ve worked with several trans and non-binary clients. What I have learned from them is simple but powerful: therapy is not about questioning your identity. It is about supporting your life.
You Don’t Have to Explain Yourself
If you are trans, non-binary or exploring your identity, you may already have spent a lifetime answering other people’s questions.
Therapy should not be another place where you have to do that.
You don’t need to convince me or educate me. You are welcome exactly as you are, wherever you are in your journey.
If your name or pronouns change, I will follow your lead.
The Real Work of Therapy
Most of my trans clients talk about the same things that everyone brings: relationships, stress, low mood, self-doubt, anxiety, loss and the search for meaning.
Sometimes gender comes into the conversation; sometimes it doesn’t.
What matters is that you have a space to be heard and supported without being reduced to a label.
A Space to Breathe
Counselling offers a pause from the noise of the world, and a place where identity does not need to be defended or explained.
Here, we can look at what helps you feel more grounded, more yourself and more at ease in daily life.
My role is not to analyse who you are, but to walk alongside you as you explore what you need in order to live more fully.
